Vigil for Palestinian journalists killed by Israel in Gaza – featuring speech by Wael Al-Dahdouh

Wael Al-Dahdouh, Al Jazeera’s Gaza Bureau Chief, will deliver a powerful address at the vigil

Over 240 candles will be lit - each one honouring a Palestinian journalist killed in the Gaza genocide

On Wednesday, 10 September, Amnesty International UK will hold a solemn vigil to honour the more than 240 Palestinian journalists and media workers killed by Israel in Gaza since October 2023 - the deadliest period for journalists ever recorded.

The gathering also marks one month since an Israeli airstrike killed six Al Jazeera journalists in a single attack.

The Israel-Gaza crisis has been the most dangerous conflict for journalists since the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) started keeping records in 1992.

Al Jazeera’s Gaza Bureau Chief, Wael Al-Dahdouh, will attend the vigil and deliver a powerful address on the systematic targeting of journalists during the genocide.

Wael has become a global symbol of resilience and truth-telling in the face of unimaginable loss. His wife, seven-year-old daughter, and 15-year-old son were killed in an Israeli airstrike on the Nuseirat refugee camp on 28 October 2023, in addition to eight of his other relatives.

Wael Al-Dahdouh will not be conducting media interviews at the event.

WHEN: September 10, 2025. 5.30 - 7pm (Wael will be speaking at 6pm for ten minutes)

WHERE: Richmond House (opposite Downing St), Whitehall, London, SW1A 2NL

WHAT: An Amnesty hosted vigil with candles representing over 240 journalists killed since October 2023. The Committee to Protect Journalists say this is the deadliest period for journalists since it began recording data in 1992.
