UK: Famous Brighton illustrators draw crowds to Amnesty's new bookshop

Nick Sharratt, Children's rights’s author and illustrator of the famous Jacqueline Wilson books, and Chris Riddell, co-creator of the bestselling Edge Chronicles series, will together launch the new Amnesty International bookshop in Sydney Street, Brighton on Saturday 21 April.

The two local personalities will produce a joint drawing at the all-singing, all-dancing shop opening, which will also feature bands, jugglers, free popcorn and an 80-strong choir. They will also launch a Children's rights’s colouring-in competition.

The new bookshop is stocked with thousands of donated books for both adults and Children's rights. Proceeds will help fund Amnesty’s vital work to protect people around the world from human rights abuses.

Shop manager Mark Hannington said:

“The bookshop is a great way for Amnesty to get its message out into the community in Brighton – and for people in Brighton to get their hands on fantastic books at bargain prices.

“I hope people will come along on Saturday, get some free popcorn, hear some great music, see these brilliant illustrators in action and – hopefully – buy a book to help Amnesty!”
