Northern Ireland: Lords approve abortion regulations with 'huge majority'

The House of Lords has voted to approve Northern Ireland’s abortion regulations 355 to 77. The regulations will now go to the House of Commons where they will complete the parliamentary process.

Grainne Teggart, Amnesty International’s Northern Ireland Campaign Manager, said:

“It’s welcome news that the Lords have approved Northern Ireland’s abortion regulations with a huge majority. This framework for services will ensure women and girls have access to vital healthcare at home.

“The focus must now be on the commissioning of services in Northern Ireland. Clear pathways to access the care must be set out and services must be properly resourced. We will continue to press the Department of Health and the Northern Ireland Office on this.”
