Northern Ireland: Amnesty welcomes announcement on child abuse inquiry

Amnesty International has welcomed the announcement by the Northern Ireland Executive that it will hold an inquiry into historical institutional child abuse in the region.

  

Patrick Corrigan, Amnesty International's Northern Ireland Programme Director, said:

 

“Amnesty International welcomes today's announcement from Ministers that the Executive will institute an inquiry into historical institutional abuse in Northern Ireland. This is exactly what we have been calling for and, for the victims, the announcement will come as welcome news in advance of Christmas.

 

"Amnesty International will now seek to ensure that the inquiry fully meets the needs of victims and the human rights obligations of government."
