Northern Ireland: Amnesty welcomes abuse Redress Board president appointment
“This is good news for abuse survivors in Northern Ireland.” – Patrick Corrigan
Responding to the announcement by the Lord Chief Justice Sir Declan Morgan today of the appointment of Mr Justice Colton as the President of the Historical Institutional Abuse Redress Board, Patrick Corrigan, Northern Ireland programme director of Amnesty International, said:
“This is good news for abuse survivors in Northern Ireland. The appointment of Mr Justice Colton as President of the Historical Institutional Abuse Redress Board is a crucial step towards delivery of long-awaited compensation to the victims of institutional child abuse in Northern Ireland.
“We now wish to see the speedy appointment of non-judicial panel members of the Redress Board and a start to the operation of the compensation scheme.
“We will continue to work with victims and survivors to ensure that the commitments in the HIA (NI) Act are fully and promptly delivered.”
