NI: Amnesty International response to Police Ombudsman report

Responding to a report today from Police Ombudsman of Northern Ireland Nuala O'Loan on collusion between security forces and loyalist paramilitaries, Amnesty International UK said:

“Amnesty International has had long-standing concerns over collusion between Northern Ireland security services and loyalist paramilitaries. These have been heightened by the government’s failure to investigate the allegations: there should be no impunity for human rights abuses.

“Charges should be brought against people wherever there is evidence of a criminal offence, and this should be done promptly.

“Fully independent investigations must be conducted into all serious allegations of human rights abuses implicating the UK security forces, including the former RUC special branch.

“Victims of these crimes should also receive full reparation.”
