Iraq: Human rights must be protected in any action

Amnesty International believes that whilst it is right and proper that human rights violations are a matter of international concern Prime Minister Blair and President Bush must ensure that any action taken does not further violate those rights. Rather they should make the protection and observance of those rights a central policy goal of any action.

While Amnesty International takes no position on resorting to use of force to resolve international disputes, any military action must seek to protect civilians and be conducted in accordance with International Humanitarian law, Human Rights law and the Geneva Conventions.
