Egypt constitution vote: spokespeople available for comment

Amnesty International has spokespeople available to comment on the vote for a new constitution in Egypt.

Last month Amnesty released its analysis of the draft constitution, which concluded that although it is an improvement on the 2012 constitution passed when Mohamed Morsi was in power in Egypt, it still falls short of international human rights standards.

The current draft constitution allows for the military trial of civilians, discriminates against foreign nationals, and leaves room for undue restrictions to be placed on freedom of expression and assembly (see: http://goo.gl/mFQPzG).

Amnesty’s Egypt experts are able to comment on the constitution’s various shortcomings, as well as the recent crackdown on civil society and political activists in the country.
