Amnesty International welcomes the Release of Dr. Saad El-Din Ibrahim

Defence lawyers present at their first appearances before the State Security Prosecution on 1 July 2000 reported that there were several accusations, including receiving foreign funding without permission of the authorities, falsification of election documents and dissemination of false information harmful to Egypt. There are more recent reported accusations of espionage.

Amnesty International called on the Egyptian Government once again to provide urgent clarification of the legal situation of Dr. Ibrahim and his colleagues.
