Urgent Action update: Prisoner of conscience sentenced to 10 years in Azerbaijan
Activist and prisoner of conscience Giyas Ibrahimov was sentenced to 10 years in prison on 25 October The court hearing in the case of his fellow activist, prisoner of conscience Bayram Mammadov, is ongoing. He is facing up to 12 years in prison.

Urgent Action update: Appeal of two Ukranian men rejected in Russia
On 26 October the Russian Supreme Court upheld the conviction of Stanislav Klykh and Mykola Karpyuk who had been sentenced after an unfair trial to 20 and 22 years respectively for allegedly killing Russian soldiers in Chechnya in 1994 – 1996.

A Cairo court adjourned to 1 November the trial of photojournalist Mahmoud Abu Zeid, popularly known as Shawkan. He is a prisoner of conscience facing nine trumped-up charges and is at risk of the death penalty, if convicted.

Urgent Action update: Stop execution of man with mental disability in Pakistan
Imdad Ali, a death row prisoner with a mental disability, is at imminent risk of execution. Pakistan’s Supreme Court rejected on 20 October his latest appeal to halt the execution on the ground that he has paranoid schizophrenia.
