Are you interested in Amnesty International UK’s Section’s governance? In 2021 we are looking to fill two vacancies on our Standing Orders Committee (SOC).

The SOC consists of three members who are elected for a three-year term. The role of the Committee is to apply the AGM rules (known as Standing Orders) to all business relating to Annual General Meetings (AGMs) and Extraordinary General Meetings (EGMs).

The SOC helps the AGM Chair to run the meeting by advising on the Standing Orders. They also advise members on the wording of resolutions, ensure that resolutions meet the requirements of Standing Orders and allocate them for discussion in a “working party”. In addition, the SOC updates the Standing Orders to reflect changing needs and external legal requirements. The SOC submits a report and any suggested changes to Standing Orders to each general meeting for ratification.

Candidates for election need to be available for AGM/EGM preparatory meetings and reviews after, as well as attending AGMs/EGMs. Experience of managing Standing Orders or committees of similar membership organisations is desirable. Candidates must be Individual Members of AIUK.

We are looking for two members to take up a role on the Standing Orders Committee from 2021 – 2024.

This is an annually elected role which candidates can apply for in the next year if not the current year due to the cyclical nature of the elections.

Applications for these roles are now open. Please download the combined role description and nomination form below. Return your completed nomination form to by Friday 16th April 2021. Please contact the returning officer should you have any questions regarding your application.

Amnesty International UK values diversity and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
