Amnesty International UK (AIUK) is renowned and respected the world over for promoting and protecting human rights. Our credibility relies on our refusal to compromise our financial independence and integrity and for this reason much of our funding depends on the contributions of our membership and fundraising activities. A fine example of this are our Books for Amnesty shops, which raise money by selling second-hand donated books both on and offline.
About the role
Based in our Social Giving and Retail team in London, you will be responsible for maximising our profits through the collection and transfer of stock across the Books for Amnesty shops. You will build relations with individuals, publishers and publications in order to generate stock from donations, and you will also be responsible for managing our online book sales.
You will be someone who is passionate about books and has knowledge of the book trade (both retail and online sales). You will be able to deliver excellent customer service, and be able to negotiate whilst maintaining an approachable and enthusiastic manner. Managing a team of volunteers, you will also need the ability to organise and motive them in order to make the most of the time that they contribute to us. This is a unique opportunity for you to put your love of books together with your belief in protecting human rights to the best possible use.
Our aim is simple: an end to human rights abuses. Independent, international and influential, we campaign for justice, fairness, freedom and truth wherever they are denied. Already our network of over seven million people is making a difference in almost every country in the world. Whether we are applying pressure through powerful research or direct lobbying, mass demonstrations or online campaigning, we are all inspired by hope for a better world. One where human rights are enjoyed by all.
