SHOW SUPPORT FOR REFUGEES

The previous Government’s deterrent strategy did not work - it cost lives, caused increased misery and completely overwhelmed the asylum system.

The new government has scrapped the Rwanda scheme and announced that the Bibby Stockholm asylum barge will be closed.

But progress doesn’t stop there. Seeking asylum is a human right. Without creating access to safe routes, the Prime Minister risks going down a similar path to the last Government.

Donate today to help us campaign for the Government to completely unravel the cruel and reckless policy of refusing to process asylum claims, and instead treat people fleeing persecution and conflict fairly and with dignity.

All donations go to support Amnesty International UK Section Charitable Trust.

The UK Government’s primary policy has been to outrightly refuse to process asylum claims. This has left tens of thousands of people fleeing conflict and persecution in limbo - their status and future uncertain.

Channel crossings continue to result in fatalities – four people died trying to cross the English Channel in July this year.

For 2022-2023, annual asylum costs were above £3 billion - more than 6 times higher than before the policy was introduced. This is a staggering waste of public money and cannot continue to happen.

It’s about time the strategy changed.

Donating today could help us hold the new government to account in their promises to end this dangerous and costly strategy, and ensure the rights of people seeking asylum are protected.
