The Human Rights Academy is a free online learning platform that allows participants to embark on a self-paced learning journey to understand the principles of human rights and how to use them as a tool for positive change.

We believe that knowledge of rights is essential for claiming them, defending them, and promoting them and hope that our courses will inspire you to take action.

Over 3 self-paced modules spanning 5 hours, this course explores how climate change drives inequality, threatens fundamental freedoms, and impacts communities worldwide. You will learn key concepts, evaluate tensions and synergies between climate action and human rights, and uncover practical tools to shape policies that protect people and the planet. From understanding state and corporate responsibilities, to supporting environmental defenders, this course equips you to connect climate justice with human rights and take meaningful action for change.

Developed by Amnesty, and delivered through FutureLearn, discover why climate change is one of the biggest human rights challenges of our time, and how human rights can be a powerful tool to fight it. In this 3-week course, you’ll explore the deep connections between global warming and human rights violations, uncover inequalities across regions and demographics, and learn practical ways to take action. Through interactive learning and real-world examples, you’ll gain the knowledge and confidence to advocate for climate justice, support environmental defenders, and join a global movement tackling these urgent issues.

This 45-minute course delves into the critical human rights issues surrounding the energy transition and will equip you with the knowledge and tools to ensure a transition away from fossil fuels that respects human rights. Take this transformative journey to understand the impact of mining raw minerals in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and take action to promote a sustainable and rights-respecting energy transition.
