The Human Rights Academy is a free online learning platform that allows participants to embark on a self-paced learning journey to understand the principles of human rights and how to use them as a tool for positive change.

Anti-Racism and Human Rights: Understanding and confronting racism, discrimination and inequality

Are you looking to develop your understanding of racism?

Racism has deep roots in Britain’s history and continues to shape institutions and everyday life. Developed by Amnesty, and delivered through FutureLearn, this three-week course explores how racism violates human rights, traces its historical origins, and examines resistance movements past and present. You'll learn what racism and anti-racism look like today, and discover practical steps you can take to make a difference. By the end, you’ll be informed, inspired, and ready to take action against racism and for equality.

Decoding descent-based discrimination

Would you like to understand and challenge descent-based discrimination?

In this 90-minute course, you’ll explore the global prevalence, forms, and manifestations of discrimination based on descent or caste. You’ll learn why this practice violates human rights and gain practical tools to take action against racial discrimination rooted in descent. By the end, you’ll be equipped to recognise its impact and contribute to building a more equal and inclusive society.

The Rights of Refugees

Interested in learning about refugee rights?

This 3-hour course launched on World Refugee Day in 2023. Explore topics such as the legal framework for refugee protection, the impact of displacement on health and well-being, and the role of civil society in defending refugee rights. You will gain a comprehensive understanding of refugee rights and the challenges faced by displaced populations around the world. You will have the tools and knowledge necessary to advocate for the rights of refugees and to become effective allies and advocates for displaced populations.

Don't Prevent Rights, Protect them - an Introduction to the Government’s Prevent Duty

Interested in learning more about the UK Government's Prevent Duty?

This short course on the Government’s Prevent Duty will be enable you to understand what the Prevent duty is, the harms done to communities by Prevent, how it infringes on human rights, and understand what Amnesty has found as part of its research into Prevent.
