Chiara Fabbro

‘Scars and Solidarity’ is a photographic exhibition by Chiara Fabbro about the lives in limbo along the Balkan route of migration and the solidarity of Bosnian people, still grappling with their own scars. It's a story of hardship and healing told through photos, texts and direct quotations from the protagonists.

"I know what it means to feel invisible," shared Lejla, a Bosnian woman who fled her home during the war in the '90s - a sentiment that resonates with those now stranded in her country. Thousands of men, women and children travelling along the Balkan route fall victim to recurrent and brutal pushbacks at the borders, leaving them to face increasingly precarious conditions as they struggle to continue their journey. In a country where the memories of conflict and displacement are still vivid, the presence of migrant people has sparked mixed reactions from the local communities. Yet many Bosnians are showing profound solidarity with those trying to reach Europe in search of safety and a dignified life.

Chiara Fabbro is an Italian documentary photographer based in London, focusing on human connections and the complex realities of borders. With projects spanning the suburbs of Kuala Lumpur and the most remote mountain areas in the Balkans, her work has been published internationally and earned several awards, such as 'Portrait of Humanity'.

The exhibition can be seen in full until the 5th of July. Afterwards, the majority of the photos will remain on display until the end of September.
