Telegraph debating 42 days now: get involved!

Lord Ahmed has a piece on the Telegraph website today, setting out the reasons why he's going to vote against 42 days pre-charge detention when the Lords debate it tomorrow.  Good for him.

But he's getting a bit of a barracking from some people and some of the comments verge on the Islamophobic -

"…if Muslims put about 90% defensive emphasis on MUSLIM rather than TERRORISM, then in a dilute way they are part of the problem – once again playing the victim card and thinking tribally instead of considering other people and how to get along with them."

"I don't give a monkeys or a rats backside if young Muslim men are annoyed and neither should you. You are talking about appeasement when the law should be absolutely unequivocal about the unacceptable nature of some offences… People are tired to death of Muslims pulling the victim card all the time. We have soldiers in the field being killed by Muslims and yet British Muslims demand this and that and some women choose to wear a tribal badge belonging to our enemies."

"If sharia law is to be introduced in parts of the UK for muslims can we look forward (?) to the punishments we have seen in muslim countries – beheading for treason, amputation for theft etc. That should make young muslim men pine for home!"

and so on…

To be fair, there are a decent number of fair-minded Telegraph readers who have put up some well-reasoned arguments both for and against his article.

But if you, like me, don't like the tone of some of the 'arguments' above, pile in and have your say!
