Amnesty activist elected President!

No, not that presidency!

Congratulations to Ciarnán Helferty who has recently been elected new President of Queen's University Belfast Students Union.

Ciarnán is currently the Welfare Officer at the students' union and also has recently become a Board member of Amnesty International UK, having previously been active in his school AI group, Queen's student AI group and AIUK's Student Action Network.

Good luck to Ciarnán in what is sure to be a busy year for him (he has already popped up this afternoon as a panellist on BBC Radio Ulster's Seven Days programme.

Given some Queen's students' historic role in standing up for rights in Northern Ireland, there could be no better President of QUBSU than modern day rights campaigner Ciarnán in this 40th anniversary year of the NI civil rights campaign.
