UK: Give urgent protection to frontline Human Rights Defenders

In communities around the world, people defending human rights are being threatened, attacked, imprisoned or killed.

Many are under threat from governments, violent groups or self-interested companies.

In 2019, it was reported that over 300 Human Rights Defenders were killed.

Without these courageous people risking their lives to defend human rights, too many violations would go unrecorded and unchallenged, potentially leaving whole communities defenceless.

They need protection, and the UK government can help. Through speaking out, the UK has helped free some Human Rights Defenders and in some cases, has even stopped them from being killed.

The UK’s voice has power. It’s time to use it and to be a world leader by creating a clear and focussed plan to help protect Human Rights Defenders.

If they don’t - it might be too late. Your MP has a key role to play in applying pressure on the government.
