The Welsh Government is failing to take action to uphold international human rights laws and fulfil its global responsibilities.

Despite clear rulings from the International Court of Justice, the Welsh Government has yet to call for an end to all arms exports to Israel. Public sector pensions in Wales continue to invest over a billion pounds in companies linked to genocide, apartheid and Israel's illegal occupation.

Wales must not be complicit. That’s why we’re pressing MSs to publicly call for justice and action from the Welsh Government, including:

Supporting an end to all arms exports to Israel
An urgent review of public sector funding and procurement and the introduction of robust human rights due diligence checks
To work with Local Authorities to ensure ethical investment of Welsh Public Sector Pensions

I am writing as your constituent to express my outrage about the genocide in Gaza and the ongoing apartheid and injustice against Palestinians everywhere.

The international community is failing to uphold the international laws designed to prevent war crimes and crimes against humanity, thereby failing to hold the Israeli authorities accountable.

The Welsh Government is no exception.

Despite clear rulings from the International Court of Justice, the Welsh Government has yet to call for an end to all arms exports to Israel. Public sector pensions in Wales continue to invest over a billion pounds in companies linked to genocide, apartheid and Israel’s illegal occupation.

The Welsh Government doesn’t even undertake human rights due diligence checks, meaning more public money is being used to support companies implicated in violations of international law and human rights abuses against Palestinians.
 
I know that the International Court of Justice has directed all States to “abstain from entering into economic or trade dealings with Israel concerning the Occupied Palestinian Territory” and to “take steps to prevent trade or investment relations that assist in the maintenance of the illegal [occupation]”.

I also know that the Welsh Government rightly took decisive action following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, including issuing a Welsh Public Procurement Policy Note to cut ties with companies linked to the Russian invasion, whilst the Welsh Public Sector Pensions Partnership took immediate action to divest. Failing to take similar action for Palestinians smacks of hypocrisy and undermines international law for everyone.

I am urging you to press the Welsh Government and publicly call for:
·An end to all arms exports to Israel
·An urgent review of public sector funding and procurement and the introduction of robust human rights due diligence checks
·To work with Local Authorities to ensure ethical investment of Welsh Public Sector Pensions.

I urge you to speak out publicly, raise these concerns with the Welsh Government, and push for Wales to stand on the right side of history.
