What is an Amnesty youth group?
Our youth groups are full of young activists, like the ones you'll see in this film, who campaign and fundraise together for human rights in 500 schools and sixth form colleges across the UK.
Our youth groups make a big difference to their members, their school and those they campaign for. We stand up for human rights by:
- Organising fun events, gigs and creative campaigns
- Raising money and awareness for Amnesty
- Doing local newspaper, radio and TV interviews
- Lobbying local MPs
- Organise assemblies, demonstrations, vigils and other public actions
- Collecting signatures
- Writing letters to prisoners of conscience and government officials around the world
- Attending national events with other Amnesty members
- Influencing how Amnesty campaigns for human rights by voting at the Annual General Meeting
- Generally having fun and developing great friendships and confidence along the way
As part of an Amnesty youth group you will develop great skills and experience for your future career and job or university applications.
Our Education and Student team is here to support and develop the youth group network. Every group receives a monthly action pack of everything they need to campaign in their school:
- A full briefing on Amnesty's campaign for that month including info, actions and resources
- A Youth Urgent Action - a case sheet for an individual or group in immediate danger and an action to protect them
- Extra resources to download or order such as stickers, postcards, DVDs, stickers, etc
- Invitations to events such as the Annual General Meeting.
