Hammersmith

The Hammersmith bookshop was originally set up as a stall in the Hammersmith & City Line tube station, by Amnesty members Christine Pain and Dick Langton, to fund raise for local campaigns. The shop then moved to rented premises on Kings Street and, although it has moved three times since then, it has remained a well-known and much loved staple on King Street. It has always been run by volunteers, some of whom have been with us from the very beginning, and its success lead to the opening of more shops in other parts of the country.

Opening Hours:

Monday: 10am - 5pm

Tuesday - Saturday: 10.30am - 5.30pm

Sunday: 11am - 3pm

We receive regular donations of fiction and non-fiction, and we take special pride on our literature section which includes classics, and books considered to be of superior, or lasting, artistic merit. We have a special cabinet for old, rare, interesting, and collectable books, whilst our plays and drama section is regularly praised by Drama students. Other strong sections are visual arts, cookery, history, young adults, and children´s. We also sell DVDs, CDs, and Vinyl records, and have a range of postcards, greeting cards, and branded Amnesty products.

We are always looking for people to join our volunteer team. If you want to learn more there is a bit more about volunteering in Amnesty bookshops here,  to find out about the vacancies we have email hammersmithbookshop@amnesty.org.uk or pop in for a chat.

If you’re thinking of donating to us, please refer to the donation section below.
