Deportation receives much political and media attention. This briefing explains what it is and addresses some misinformation about it.

Of particular focus is how Governments and Parliament made deportation a matter that is narrowly focused on human rights considerations (often Article 8 - the right to respect for private and family life); and the bad impact of this.

It is Government's primary responsibility to correct this. The briefing includes recommendations for doing so.
