Amnesty UK and GAPS joint briefing on impact on the Women, Peace and Security agenda

Amnesty International and Gender Action for Peace and Security have produced this joint briefing concerning the UK's commitments to Women, Peace and Security and the undermining impact of the Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill and asylum policy to those commitments.

Of especial concern are:

  • the failure to repeal Part 2 of the Nationality and Borders Act 2022 and the impact of that Part on asylum decision-making
  • the related ministerial decision to pause until at least Spring 2026 (with a view to then significantly curtailing) the availability of refugee family reunion visas
  • the wider policy of deterrence, further pursued by this Bill, and the undermining signal this sends to others regarding the need to take and share asylum responsibilities
