UK: Milburn review has to be ‘wake-up call’ to stop young people falling into poverty

Posted

In response to The Milburn Review’s interim findings on youth unemployment in the UK, Laura Trevelyan, Amnesty International UK’s Economic, Social and Cultural Rights Campaign Manager, said:

“The Milburn review has to be a wake-up call. It’s alarming that so many young people are unable to find work, whilst those who do aren’t being paid enough to afford the essentials.

“The first step is a root and branch review of our social security system, so that it prevents young people falling into poverty, instead of punishing them for not having the decent paying jobs that simply don’t exist.”
