Commenting on the Government's appeal against the High Court overturning the Palestine Action ban, Tom Southerden, Amnesty International UK’s Law and Human Rights Director, said:

“Amnesty International is intervening in this case because the Palestine Action ban was a grave misuse by the government of sweeping counter terror powers.

"The images of clergy, pensioners and military veterans amongst many others being thrown into police vans for holding placards will remain a lasting symbol of a shameful attack on our democracy. Rather than doubling down, the Government should withdraw it’s appeal and begin the process of reversing the years of legislation that has been aimed at eroding our right to protest.”
