Northern Ireland: Burning mosque effigy a ‘shameful display of hatred’
Posted
In reaction to the burning of an effigy of a mosque on top of a bonfire in Moygashel, Co. Tyrone, Patrick Corrigan, Amnesty International UK’s Northern Ireland Director, said:
“It is shameful that, for the second year in a row, a despicable display of hatred has been allowed to take place in Moygashel.
“However, we welcome action by the police, including a commitment to remove such displays.
“This must be a turning point. 2026 must be the last year in which such criminal displays of incitement to hatred – whether racist or sectarian – are tolerated by public authorities.”
