Response to Northern Ireland Executive consultation on draft race relations framework

ant-racism_march_banner.jpg

Overview

In March 2026, The Executive Office of the NI Executive opened a consultation on a draft race relations framework.

Amnesty International UK responded to that consultation on 2 June 2026. A copy of that response is available via the link below.

For reasons set out in our response, we regard the draft framework as not fit for purpose and call on the Executive Office to substantially redraft it to accurately reflect the worrying context of structural inequality and rising race hate crime, reframe away from a ‘good relations’ approach, and embed human rights principles, robust delivery mechanisms, and genuine accountability.

Amnesty in Northern Ireland

From dealing with the legacy of the Troubles, to issues relating to Abortion rights, and individual stories of victims, we campaign for Human Rights in Northern Ireland at Stormont, through the media, through education, and at meetings and events all over Northern Ireland.

Racial justice

Government policies like the "Prevent" duty and use of "crime predicting" technology by police target racialised people and erode their human rights. The power to change this is in our hands.
