Response to Home Office consultation on support for families and children facing removal

Overview

On 6 March 2026, the Home Office invited Amnesty International UK to respond to its 'targeted' consultation on Enforcing Family Returns.

This response is to Part 1 of that consultation: Reforming Support for Families and Adult Care Leavers Without Immigration Status.

The overriding concern expressed in our response is that the department's wider policy and practice means that the assumptions on which its present proposals are based inappropriate and inaccurate. Moreover, it has not properly or at all assessed the impacts of its proposals, including as regards its children's best interests duty, let alone that wider policy and practice that concerns these proposals.
