Response to Home Office consultation on creating a new appeals body
Overview
On 25 March 2026, the Home Office opened a consultation relating to its intention to replace the existing independent appeals body with an appeals body of its own creation.
Amnesty International UK responded to that consultation on 6 May 2026. A copy of that responses is available at the link below.
For reasons set out in our response, we raise questions concerning the independence, professionalism and credibility of a body created by the department, from whose decisions that body will hear and decide appeals. We also raise concerns about the human rights and other potential consequences of this.
