Pathway to Settlement: government proposals

Report Iconography

Overview

This briefing sets out the key proposals announced last month by the Government on whether and how migrant people may in future be permitted to settle in the UK (i.e., become permanent residents).

It provides analysis of these proposals and explains why Amnesty is opposed to them.

It is important that some - but not all of what is proposed - is subject to consultation.

Refugee & migrant rights

People leave their homes for a safer, better life - for work, education, or forced to flee human rights violations. We demand all refugees and migrants are treated with dignity and respect, and an immigration and asylum system that is fair and effective.
