Parliamentary Briefing: Courts and Tribunals Bill (June 2026)
Overview
Our UK parliamentary briefing on the proposed Courts and Tribunals Bill (aka the Courts Modernisation Bill), which is intended to reform the criminal justice system and reduce the Crown Court case backlog in England and Wales.
Amnesty International UK is deeply concerned about the impact of Clauses 1–7 and Schedules 1 and 2 on defendants' rights to a fair trial and calls on the next UK Prime Minister and Justice Secretary to remove these from the Bill in line with proposed cross-party amendments.
