Responding to the Myanmar military’s rejection of responsibility for crimes committed against the Rohingya, Kate Allen, Amnesty International UK’s Director, said:

“The Myanmar military’s denials of violence against the Rohingya is a blatant lie. This is just more denial on top of denial.

“We have extensively documented how the Myanmar military have led a murderous campaign of ethnic cleansing against the Rohingya, including killings, rapes, abductions and forced starvation.

“On my recent trip to the Rohingya refugee camps in Bangladesh, I heard heartbreaking stories from people who’d been forced to flee their homes in mortal fear.

“There should be no question of Rohingya refugees being made to return while a Myanmar military who have not been brought to account await them.”
