The Nafusa Mountain area in the far west of Libya, where people have largely declared their allegiance to the opposition forces controlling Benghazi, has been under siege and under fire since early March 2011. In mid-April 2011, as fighting intensified thousands of people fled across the nearby border into Tunisia - nearly 55,000 according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
