Since the launch of Charter 08, thousands of signatories have been interrogated and detained, several of them were subjected to Re-eduction through labor. Liu Xiaobo, nobel peace laureate, one of drafting Charter 08 was sentenced to 11 years in prison. He has been in jail for six years up to now. Liu Xia, poet and his wife has been under house arrest since 2009.
