Infographic: California's prisoner isolation units

We've launched a new report on solitary confinment, which details the lengths California is willing to take to isolate prisoners -sometimes for as long as 20 years or more.

More than 3,000 prisoners in California are in 'Secrutiy Housing Units' . They are held in cells around 9' by 9', with no windows, almost no stimulation and limited contact with any other individual - even trips to the exercise yard or showers can be done remotely. At the Pelican Bay prison, more than 500 inmates have spent more than 10 years in these conditions.
