Egypt: Response to today's violence and army inaction

In response to today’s violence in Egypt, Amnesty International Middle East and North Africa Deputy Director Hassiba Hadj-Sahraoui said:
"The army has failed in its commitment to protect peaceful protestors. The fact that such violence is allowed to continue as they stand there begs the question whether they have orders not to interfere.
"The protestors' right to peacefully demonstrate must be upheld."
