Essential training for lead activists

If you are a lead activist with Amnesty International UK, you are required you to complete certain essential training for your role. There are currently three mandatory courses, which you can read about below.

To access this training via our internal learning platform, you must have an Amnesty International UK email address, or have received an invite from us.

If you require the training for your role, you will have been invited already. If you have not received an invitation and believe you should have, please contact [email protected]

Safeguarding training

As a lead activist, it’s essential to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children, young people, and vulnerable adults you may work with. The NSPCC training provided will guide you through best practices for safeguarding, including recognising signs of abuse or neglect, understanding your responsibilities, and knowing how to take appropriate action if you have concerns. Completing this course helps you create a safe, supportive environment and ensures compliance with Amnesty International UK’s safeguarding standards.

Data protection training

Protecting personal data is critical to maintaining trust and upholding your rights. This course will help you understand why strong data protection measures are essential when handling information about activists, donors, or partners. You’ll learn best practices for keeping data secure, the legal and ethical responsibilities involved, and how to prevent breaches that could put individuals at risk. Completing this training ensures you can work confidently and responsibly with sensitive information.

Training on Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access (IDEA)

Lastly, but certainly not least, this introductory course will look at the core principles of equity, diversity, inclusion and anti-racism. You will explore the contemporary language of inclusion, gain a greater understanding of individual privilege and the impact it has individuals, as well take part in constructive conversations on what anti-racism means for Amnesty International UK.
