Known for our friendly team as well as our excellent range of books, we have been an established part of York’s second-hand book circuit for over 10 years.

We’ve recently moved into new premises at 19 Micklegate, and the reaction has been fantastic from customers old and new. The new shop is larger, more accessible and is a wonderful space for book browsing.

Opening hours:

Monday-Saturday: 10am - 6pm
Sunday: 11am - 4pm

"York Bookshop frontage and some books inside the shop"

As well as a warm welcome, you can expect to find a wide range of good quality, second-hand books. Whether you are looking for modern fiction, classics, social sciences, art, poetry, drama, history, foreign language or children’s books, there is plenty to browse here. Plus, we offer CDs, DVDs and vinyl. We also stock a small ethical gift range including Amnesty goods, and seasonal cards, calendars and diaries.

Donations help us keep our stock fresh and relevant, so if you’re thinking of donating to us, we’d love to hear from you. Please refer to the donation section below.

We are always looking for people to join our volunteer team. If you want to learn more there is a bit more about volunteering in Amnesty bookshops here,  to find out about the vacancies we have email or pop in for a chat.

The new shop is located opposite the Travelodge, before the right turn on to George Hudson Street/ Rougier Street.

There are a number of pay and display car parks close by on Priory Street, Tanner Row and Nunnery lane, and we are just around the corner from Rougier Street, which serves most major bus routes through York.

The shop floor is accessible to wheelchair users.
