Nazanin Boniadi is an Amnesty International UK ambassador

Nazanin Boniadi is an Iranian-born, Screen Actors Guild and AACTA Award-nominated actor and a prominent human rights advocate. Her television and film credits include The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Homeland, Counterpart, How I Met Your Mother, and Hotel Mumbai.

Nazanin has partnered with Amnesty International since 2008 to campaign for the rights of disenfranchised populations across the world, with a focus on the unjust conviction and treatment of Iranian youth, women and prisoners of conscience. Her opinions have been published in global media outlets including The Washington Post, BBC, CNN, Defense One and The New York Times.

In December 2022, the BBC invited Nazanin to speak on its 100 Women panels, including discussions marking a decade of the initiative and addressing the situation in Iran. Her human rights work has been widely recognised, including the City of Second Chances Award from the Program for Torture Victims (2014), selection as one of People magazine’s 25 Women Changing the World (2018), the Freedom House Raising Awareness Award (2020), and the Ellis Island Medal of Honor.
