One message can make all the difference. Think of how a message on a tough day—a few words of hope or support—can bring strength. Now imagine what your message could mean to someone like Oqba.

Egyptian authorities have held 27-year-old student Oqba Hashad in pretrial detention since May 2019, in retaliation for his brother’s human rights activism. Oqba was forcibly disappeared, tortured and denied the prosthetic leg he has used to move unassisted since a childhood accident. His only crime is being related to someone who defends human rights.

On 20 February 2024, a judge ordered his release, as he had been held in pretrial detention for longer than the two years permitted by Egyptian law. To bypass this, prosecutors opened a new bogus case against him to justify his continued detention.

Your message to Egyptian authorities could be a vital step toward securing Oqba’s freedom. Together, our words can become a powerful chorus demanding justice—not just for Oqba, but for all facing similar repression.

Join us today in calling for Oqba’s immediate and unconditional release. Every message sends a message to the Egyptian government and to those whose rights are being violated.
