The Guildford Amnesty Group opens their regular venue to the public, with invitations to join us in signing Greetings Cards to this year's Write for Rights cases.
We publicise the event in local free magazines, put flyers in local shops, (especially in two Guildford Oxfam shops), in Churches, libraries, council offices, etc., and we send invitations to our large group of Amnesty supporters, to Councillors, the Mayor and MP.
We are open from 6.30pm till 10.00pm to allow people to come before or after other commitments. It is a social occasion with a festive atmosphere, where we offer wine or juice, mince pies, and other nibbles. There is the possibility for children to illustrate cards also.
We keep the Amnesty candle burning and the room is decorated with posters showing successful results from past Write for Rights campaigns with prisoners' appreciation and thanks. We ask people to join us for our letter-writing sessions once a month, when they can write letters for the cases.
Entrance is free but we ask for donations for stamps.
