Do you want to join a subcommittee to Amnesty International Board with forward-thinking individuals and high standards and achievements? Are you an experienced Senior HR professional looking to contribute to a bigger cause? Are you passionate about People, Culture, Engagement, Organisational Development, Compensation, Human Resources and the forces behind the scenes that ensure best practices happen? Would you enjoy working with a small network of like- minded HR individuals?
We are now looking for new members to join the HR Subcommittee. You’ll provide high-level human resources expertise and advice on our people policies and strategies, from staff and volunteers to HR and development matters relating to the Board itself. You will have the opportunity to share expertise on your specialisms in HR and give valuable input to the AIUK HR team.
About the role
Reporting to the Board, the HR sub-committee comprises a mix of Board members, Trustees and external individuals with relevant expertise and skills.
Meetings will be held at the HRAC, Shoreditch headquarters of AIUK 4 times a year by consultation; normally outside working hours to suit. But we also ask that you commit to doing some work, maybe the equivalent of up to a day, in between meetings. You may be working now in a demanding job, so we realise this could be a big commitment to make. But then, so is campaigning to eradicate human rights abuses. By joining us in this role, you’ll strengthen our ability to do just that.
With a strong background in human resources management and/or learning and development at a senior management or consultancy level, you’ll bring an in-depth knowledge of the strategic people issues and best practice employed in similarly complex organisations. Applications are particularly welcome from those with a Reward/Compensation & Benefits or Organisation Development and Learning background. Experience of the voluntary sector and an awareness of the HR issues affecting charities would be an advantage, but by no means essential. Your communication and interpersonal skills will be excellent, and you will also be fully signed up to our aims, and see this as an opportunity to make a bigger and more immediate contribution to the work that we do, as well as developing your own skills and experience.

Amnesty International UK comprises two separate legal entities: Amnesty International United Kingdom Section and Amnesty International UK Section Charitable Trust (together referred to as AIUK), which are autonomous, but work to a common vision, AIUK employs 200 staff and through our thousands of volunteers, activists and members we raise over £25m every year to campaign for both individuals and on broader human rights issues such as torture, women’s rights and freedom of speech.
