Human Rights Day Event in Sunderland

The event will take place at Sunderland Minster.

We're still at the planning stage, so input is welcome.

fyi, here's the running order from last year (which is a guide only for this year):

Stalls set up by 2 pm.

Refreshments available from 2 (thanks Gill!)

2-2.30 people look at stalls/ mingle etc

2.30 Deputy Mayor and MP arrived

2.40-3 pm: Deputy Mayor, MP and Chris spoke

3 pm: silent vigil

3.10-3.40: 6 other people spoke

I've posted the event on facebook with 1.30 start, to give us a bit of leeway.

There are 2 additional features this year:

We're delighted to welcome the Caedmon Choir

We're intending to incorporate "Stories of Sanctuary"which is a City of Sanctuary initiative, so more time may be allocated to asylum seekers/ refugees to speak, as Majid did last year.

Get back to me with any thoughts, suggestions for changes etc

.. and finally, it's the 30th anniversary of this event, instituted by the late Laura Milbanke of the UN Association- before my time but a couple of the Amnesty veterans were probably there back in '89

Best wishes,

Steve Newman
