September update

Thank you for all the offers of support, we have some exciting new ideas for group activities.

Thanks also to Keith for a thoughtful and informative session on Palestine.  We all learnt a lot!

It was particularly nice to welcome our new member, Olive, who has kindly volunteered to take on our publicity.

Our meetings for the rest of the year are to be:
7th October: Amnesty's position on Climate Change & how this affects the rights of young women
4th November: human rights in Colombia
2nd December: Write 4 Rights

We discussed a change to our usual Write 4 Rights stall, singing carols one evening in the street with a table of our cards to one side.  If we get permission from the council, Nic will be looking for volunteers to sing.  Apparently we don't have to be great singers (phew), though if you do have friends who can hold a tune, please do drag them along!  More details to follow.

Here are the details of the Climate Strike on 20th September:

Climate change affects the right to life, right to health, right to housing and rights to water and sanitation. The process also makes inequality worse.

On Friday 20 September there will be a global strike calling for action on climate change, called by Greta Thunberg and other youth climate leaders and supported by Amnesty. This will include mass demonstrations across the UK, for people of all ages.

The mobilisation is to pressure governments to act with urgency by presenting more human rights compliant plans at a special Urgent Action Summit called by the UN, scheduled for 23 September.
