September Update

Thank you so much to everyone who helped with our street collection (or donated instead of helping).  We raised £705, largely due to a huge effort from the amazing Franko.  Every year he comes over for the whole day & evening, as well as the stressful preparation.  It's a fantastic contribution to our group.

Jan did a great job at our last meeting, and we are already looking forward to 5th October, when Keith will be bringing us up-to-date with the Peace Community of San Jose.  There'll also be a chance to have your photos taken with a "Refugees Welcome" banner as part of a lobbying action.  Woking Council have a agreed to take in 12 Syrian families, but the UK government should be doing more to achieve a European solution to this crisis.  Please take a moment to lobby your MP: https://www.amnesty.org.uk/refugees-welcome-UK-email-MP

There's an Amnesty event at the Guildford Book Festival on 17th October.  Caroline Moorehead tells the extraordinary story of a French village that helped to save thousands who were pursued by the Gestapo during World War II. Tickets are £7 from www.guildfordboookfestival.co.uk.
