October 2016

Sometimes watching the news is almost too depressing to bear. Come along and spend Monday night with people who share your values, who believe that all humans matter.
This Monday we’ll be taking actions to reunite child refugees with their families, and to protect a man with mental disabilities who is facing the death sentence in Japan after being bullied into a confession.
We’ll also be planning the rest of our year, with the following dates already set:
12th October: Amnesty at the Guildford Book Festival with Poems Which Make Grown Women Cry http://www.guildfordbookfestival.co.uk/amnesty-event
15th October: our street collection in Woking. Email frankokowalczuk@hotmail.com if you can spare 90 minutes to help.
22nd October: Skillshare event for Refugee Campaign in London
7th November: workshop on the new refugee campaign
5th December: Write for Rights meeting
10th December: Write for Rights stall in Commercial Way

Invitation:

It’s our pleasure to invite you to the launch of Write for Rights 2016 on 1st November. Join us at the Human Rights Action Centre where we’ll be in conversation with Albert Woodfox, who walked free this February after being featured in last year’s campaign.
Albert, along with Robert King, will be speaking about his experience of solitary confinement within the US prison system, and the impact that over 200,000 people around the world taking action on his case during Write for Rights last year had on his life.
During the evening we’ll be celebrating other successes that you helped us to achieve last year, as well as introducing you to this year’s campaign.
Alongside Albert and Robert, we will be joined by Richard Ratcliffe, the husband of Nazanin Zaghari Ratcliffe, a British-Iranian dual national imprisoned in Iran, who will be featured in Write for Rights 2016, and Chris Riddell, the Children’s Laureate.
Where: The Human Rights Action Centre, 17-25 New Inn Yard, London, EC2A 3EA
When: Tuesday 1 November 2016, 7pm
We hope you can join us to celebrate what we achieved together in 2015, and to kickstart the 2016 campaign with the energy to make it as much of a success, if not more so.
Please RSVP by Friday 14th October 2016 to farshid.talaghani@amnesty.org.uk and CC iar@amnesty.org.uk into your reply
