Our meeting this week on Thursday 9th February at 7:30pm  is actually the first of 2017 as our January meeting had to be cancelled because of the weather. Hope to see you at The Balmoral Centre, Salisbury Avenue, Westcliff-on-Sea SS0 7AU.

We'll need to spend a bit of time reviewing the Write for Rights event and planning some activities for 2017 but we'll be writing letters and e-mails (and even sending Tweets) on behalf of individuals featured in AI UK's "Urgent Action" Campaign and in relation to refugees.

If you can't come to a meeting here are a couple of ways you can still contribute to Amnesty human rights work:

  • Follow us on Twitter. If you haven't got one, open up a Twitter account, search out the Southend Amnesty twitter account @amnestysouthend and click the follow button. You'll find actions on the Amnesty UK website along with links to articles addressing human rights issues

  • Join the Pocket Protest. This is Amnesty UK’s  SMS Action Network. It's made up of more than 150,000 people who use their mobile phone to defend free speech and stand up for human rights. Follow this link for more information and details of how to join up on line or on your phone:"
