The Djameleddine Fahassi Case File
The latest news from Beverley Foulks-Jones (Amnesty UK's North African Regional Co-ordinator):
The IS did not have a researcher on Algeria for some time and as a precaution, all Algerian cases were suspended pending the arrival of the new researcher and that researcher's updating of the case. In practice the Fahassi case did not need updating by a researcher, since it was obvious from public sources of information that all of Algeria's 8,000 disappearance cases remained unresolved. Hugh Sandemen (Amnesty UK's Algerian country co-ordinator) however agreed with AIUK staff that we would not get new groups to work on the case pending the new researcher's update but those groups who wanted to go on campaigning on the case were free to do so, including the Southend group.
