Report: Vigil for Syria: 25 March 2015, Letchworth

The civil war in Syria recently reached its fourth year, and the human suffering is greater than ever before. Comparing satellite images of Syria from 2012 to today shows that 83% of Syria’s lights have gone out – this is not just a practical darkness, also metaphorically there does not seem any end to these dark times. People around the world have been and are holding vigils, to show that they stand #WithSyria. We want to help end the suffering and Turn the Lights Back On. More information about this campaign is available at https://www.withsyria.com/

Any peaceful protesters were invited to join us, but in the end there were only members of the North Hertfordshire Amnesty International group. It might have been the very cold night, with a clear sky! However, as ordinary citizens living in the area, we wanted to express our solidarity with the Syrian people.
